TAKE A STAND AGAINST CYBERBULLYING!

Cyberbullying or cyberharassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. Cyberbullying and cyberharassment are also known as online bullying. It has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers.[1] Cyberbullying is when someone, typically teens, bully or harass others on the internet, particularly on social media sites.

Bullying or harassment can be identified by repeated behavior and an intent to harm.[3] Victims may experience lower self-esteem, increased suicidal ideation, and a variety of negative emotional responses, including being scared, frustrated, angry, and depressed.

The cyberbullying statistics suggests that girls are more susceptible to cyberbullying, is no respecter of age. Filipino cyber bullies appear to be creative since more than words, they use photoshopped images to hurt their victims. Others use supposed private videos as means to harass their victims. Identity theft also plays a big role on cyber harassment.

Schools, teachers, parents and communities have a responsibility to protect and nurture the children under their care. Implementation of a strong bully prevention program that works to safeguard the physical, social, and emotional of students is an environment that all teachers and schools need to focus on. Harassment, bullying, and cyber-bulling compromise the healthy development of students. They have to work together to create positive, respectful and supportive learning communities that will provide lasting effects for generations to come.

The TAKE A STAND AGAINST CYBERBULLYING aims to Raising awareness of all members of the school community – children & young people, parents and school staff about the harm that cyberbullying causes and how children & young people can be protected.

Its objectives are to reduced number of incidents and impact of violence against children at school, resulting from an improved safe and secure whole school environment and to improved strategies and responses to incidences of bullying that will address the causes of bullying and help avoid any recurrence.

The project TAKE A STAND AGAINST CYBERBULLYING will provide us the information on how to develop a school review instrument for monitoring bullying and evaluating the school organization for bullying reduction, resulting in improved knowledge on effective programs for the reduction of cyberbullying at school.
